There is always a story as to how we get to our position in life. CNG Calumet came in to being as a necessity. In another life there was a company Doreen's Gourmet Frozen Pizza. Doreen's was the the highest quality frozen pizza in the world and was made in Calumet City Illinois. In the early 2000's the company expanded both in ther number of trucks used but geographically. We distributed from Milwaukee to Springfield IL and from South Bend to Rockford. Those trucks covered some ground and the fuel bills mounted!

Panic struck as the first $7500 gasoline bill came in the mail. After some research the nimble little company realized there was an ALTERNATIVE..Fuel that is. The pursuit of CNG begin in earnest in 2008 with a dedicated 1998 Ford E 350 CNG Van. A little insulation, add a reefer unit, an extra Fuel tank and he first Doreens Green Pizza Machine was born! Our local utility comaony Nipsco had us supplied with fuel for a $1.50 per GGE :) The race was on to purchase trucks and vans to convert to Freezer Trucks. Life was exciting. Every news station in Chicago, Cranes Chicago Business and even Radio DJ Garry Meier was facinated with little "Green" pizza company making its mark in the Chicago Market. Doreens was an examplle as to how to save "Green" on Fuel and go Green for the environment.

Then the unthinkable happened, NIPSCO a Natural gas supplier stopped selling CNG. It was time to take our participation in Alternative Fuel to the next level. With the help of Gas Technology Institute, GTI, and a friendly local bank, Doreen's Gourmet Frozen Pizza opened a public CNG Station in Calumet City. Even, our good friends at NIPSO helped by selling us their backroom of spare parts. Our opening pump price was $2.24 per Gallon/GGE. Cabs, ice cream trucks, heating cooling contractors and and even an occaisonal Budweiser Truck were our customers. Fast forward to 2018.... A gentlemmen who owned a small frozen pizza company walked in the front door, introduced himself and said "I want to be in the Chicago Frozen Pizza Market". My response was, " Go get your checkbook". He did, but to my chagrin, he did not want to learn the benefits of CNG. Although we exited the Chicago Frozen Pizza Market, we realized that we had learned a lot of practical knowledge in the field of Compressed Natural Gas. CNG Calumet was then a stand alone company. We are now, here to help you in your own "Going Green with CNG" Experience.
